Fine Art for Luxury Hotels & Resorts in the Middle East: A Practical Guide

Across the Middle East, hotel and resort owners are investing in interiors that guests remember: lobbies with double-height walls, suites with hand-finished timber and brass, spas designed around silence. In every one of these spaces, art does the work that furniture cannot. It sets the tone, signals quality and gives guests a reason to stop and look. This guide explains, step by step, how to choose and install fine art photography for luxury hotels and resorts.

I am Zack Zublena, a French-American fine art photographer. For more than a decade I have photographed dancers, yogis, athletes and performers painted entirely in gold. My work is installed across David Lloyd clubs and resorts in the United Kingdom and Europe, where it is seen daily by more than a million members. That experience shapes everything below.

Where art belongs in a hotel or resort

Think of the guest journey and place one strong work where each moment begins or ends:

  • Arrival lobby and reception: one monumental piece that defines the first impression.
  • Lounges and restaurants: a calm series that supports conversation rather than competing with it.
  • Corridors and lift lobbies: repeated formats that create rhythm and help guests find their way.
  • Suites and villas: a single large photograph above the bed or the seating area.
  • Spa and wellness areas: softer, quieter images that lower the pulse.
  • Meeting rooms and ballrooms: bold, confident pieces that carry the brand.

Scale and format

As a guide, a work above a king bed should be about two thirds the width of the headboard. In a double-height lobby, go far larger: monumental formats read from across the room and from the mezzanine. Diptychs and triptychs suit long walls, while a vertical format brings height to narrow ones. A mockup in your actual room, with your real finishes and lighting, removes the guesswork before anything is printed.

Light, heat and humidity

Hotels in this region face strong sunlight, constant air conditioning and, on the coast, salt and humidity. Specify UV-filtering glass, non-reflective glazing in bright lobbies, and sealed backing for coastal resorts. Keep works away from direct sun and from air-conditioning vents. Warm, indirect lighting makes gold tones glow without glare.

Framing and finishing for hospitality

Hospitality spaces ask more of a frame than a private home does. Choose solid, well-finished frames in bronze, dark walnut or black, with a generous mat where the room allows it. For public areas, use secure mounting hardware. Archival printing on museum-grade paper keeps colour stable for years of daily light.

Choosing the right image for the right space and guest

A good selection respects the property, its guests and its cultural setting. I work with each client to choose pieces that suit the clientele and the guidelines of the space, favouring sculptural, restrained and elegant compositions. Gold photography is especially adaptable: it reads as warmth, craft and light, which are values every hospitality brand shares.

Editions, series and consistency

Limited editions with a certificate protect the value of the work and give owners a reason to talk about the collection. A coordinated series across rooms, corridors and public areas makes the property feel designed as a whole, with each piece distinct but clearly related.

A simple process from brief to installation

  1. Brief: spaces, guest profile, palette and budget.
  2. Shortlist: a curated selection for each space.
  3. Mockups: your rooms, with real scale and finishes.
  4. Samples and approval: print and frame samples before production.
  5. Production and installation: coordinated with your contractor or designer.
  6. Care: cleaning and maintenance guidance for your team.

What public installations teach

Seeing my work installed across David Lloyd clubs and resorts taught me what hospitality needs from art: visual impact at scale, consistency across very different rooms, durability under daily use and long-term public visibility. The same principles apply to a hotel lobby or a resort suite.

Design press worth following

For ideas and references, Hospitality Design and Dezeen cover the world's leading hotel interiors, and Hotelier Middle East follows the regional hospitality industry. For wider cultural coverage, Arab News and The National report regularly on the region's design and art scene.

A quick checklist before you buy

  • Have you defined the role of art in each space?
  • Have you seen a mockup at real scale in your room?
  • Are glazing, UV protection and mounting specified?
  • Do the frames match your finishes?
  • Is there an edition and a certificate?
  • Is there a maintenance plan for your team?

Let's talk about your property

Whether you are planning a new hotel, renovating a resort or refreshing a single lobby, I would be glad to propose a selection and prepare mockups for your spaces. Browse Most Collected, discover the engagement experience, or explore Art by City. To discuss your project, contact me here.
