The Annunciation – Mother Mary and Archangel Gabriel in Gold Fine Art Photography by Zack Zublena

Description

The Annunciation has been a lifelong source of inspiration for Zack Zublena, who carries a profound devotion to the Virgin Mary. While his earlier works have portrayed Mary in shimmering gold with halo symbolism, this piece represents another take on the sacred moment — a more visionary and ethereal interpretation in which the messenger himself becomes present.

Here, Mary appears in luminous gold, receiving the presence of Archangel Gabriel, depicted through a celestial overlay of radiant blue and white wings. The blending of human form with angelic radiance symbolizes the mystery of divine encounter: the instant when heaven touches earth, when eternity announces itself in time.

In this work, the “bird” is a poetic abstraction of Gabriel’s wing—not the Holy Spirit. Its sky-blue tone is deliberate: in sacred art, blue carries the meaning of heaven, truth, and annunciation, and Gabriel is the heaven-sent messenger(Luke 1:26–38). Using an avian silhouette echoes how Renaissance painters studied real birds to render angelic wings; the streamlined, wing-in-flight shape suggests speed, arrival, and the word of God carried to Mary. By choosing a blue wing rather than a white dove, the image distinguishes Gabriel (the herald) from the Holy Spirit (traditionally shown as a white dove) while keeping Mary’s golden presence at the center of the scene.

For Zack, this work is deeply personal. Having spent many nights in adoration at the Sacré-Cœur Basilica in Paris and visiting Marian shrines such as Medjugorje, he has often felt the presence of both Mary and Gabriel guiding his path. This piece is his artistic attempt to capture the awe of that encounter — not only as a biblical event, but as a living reality still unfolding in the heart of every believer.

Unlike his earlier Marian works, this Annunciation places emphasis on Gabriel: the messenger of God, the voice of divine promise, the protector who reassures Mary with the words, “Do not be afraid.” By blending Mary’s golden figure with Gabriel’s translucent wings, Zack creates a visual prayer of surrender, courage, and grace.

This artwork is not just wall decor — it is an invitation to meditate on the mystery of the Incarnation and the continuing presence of the divine in daily life.

Sacred Gifts Included for this peice only:
Each piece is shipped with several blessed Miraculous Medals of Mary from the Chapel of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal at 140 Rue du Bac, Paris — the very place where Mary first appeared to Saint Catherine Labouré in 1830. France, long regarded as the eldest daughter of the Church, continues to carry the grace of this apparition.

The medal itself was baptized by Parisians in the mid-19th century as the “Miraculous Medal,” because it quickly became renowned for bringing countless miracles, healings, and graces into the lives of those who wore it with faith. Zack highly recommends wearing the medal for protection and blessing, and sharing the others with loved ones so that Mary’s presence extends beyond the artwork itself.

To deepen this devotional connection, Zack also encourages adding the nine choirs of angels to every rosary prayer, amplifying its strength and calling upon the full celestial hierarchy. After the words “Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death,” he suggests adding:

“Pray for us together with the choir of Angels, the choir of Archangels, the choir of Principalities, the choir of Powers, the choir of Virtues, the choir of Dominations, the choir of Thrones, the choir of Cherubim, and the choir of Seraphim.”

As Mary is Queen of all Angels, this invocation carries profound power and efficiency.
